Sunday Lunch with a twist

We Brits have a real love affair with Sunday lunch. Is it the idea of roast potatoes, Yorkshire puddings and gravy, or is it the idea of family getting together to eat a hearty lunch at the end of a busy week?

We think Sundays are important, and whilst we’ve always been open on Sundays offering our à la carte menu, only more recently we’ve started to offer a Sunday Lunch menu alongside to satisfy that need for a comforting hearty meal. Many people come to Arlingham and the surrounding area for the walks, both along the canal in Frampton and along the banks of the River Severn, where it is so peaceful. We tend to find it works up quite an appetite and Sunday lunch is the perfect remedy.

As you might have guessed, we couldn’t have come up with a set Sunday lunch menu without giving it our own twist. Each month our head chef comes up with a delicious and seasonal three course set menu, with our own take on a roast main course.

This month we have on offer:
Starter
Gruyere twice baked soufflé, Waldorf salad

Main
Slow braised brisket, duck fat roast potatoes, honey glazed Picollo parsnips, Yorkshire pudding

Dessert
Salted dark chocolate fondant, beetroot and ginger ice-cream

Followed by
Coffee or tea and petits fours

All of the above is included in the set menu and costs £37.50pp (three courses, plus coffee and petits fours)

First wine and food pairing evening of 2019

For our first wine and food pairing evening of 2019, we’re off to California, to discover the fantastic variety of wines that are produced in this sun-soaked ‘new world’ wine region.

You might be familiar with the typical robust reds from California, but as ever, our wine and food pairing evenings, will broaden your perceptions and introduce you to some lesser known grape varieties and wines from the region.

Our wine expert Frederik will take you through his personally chosen selection of red and white wines, and each wine will be accompanied by a small plate of food from our head chef to perfectly compliment the wine (or indeed for the wine to compliment the food).

In 2018 we built up local a following for these events, and regular guests say that these are fun, relaxed and informal events, but that they’ve come away learning so much, having tried wines they’d never have considered before.

Usually our wine and food pairing events are held on the first Wednesday of every month, however February is an exception as it will take place on Thursday, 7 February at 7pm. The evening costs £32.50pp, and you’ll need to call to book on 01452 740547

With the festive season upon us and just weeks until Christmas we’ll all be looking forward to delicious seasonal food and drink in abundance.

What better way to start December than trying out some new wines that might take you into Christmas with a sparkle?

The next wine and food pairing evening will be held on Wednesday, 5th December, at 7pm. These monthly events are relaxed, fun and informal evenings where you’ll try a wide selection of wines – some you may know and also some lesser known grape varieties.

Each wine is served with a delicious little plate of food created by our head chef to complement the wine.

Our wine man Frederik Van Niekerk is a passionate wine expert with over 12 years of experience in the drinks industry and with WSET qualifications (Wines and Spirits Education Trust). His fun and knowledgeable approach to the evenings makes for good entertainment.

And although we’re tasting wines from Northern Spain, we’re sure if you got questions about the best tipples for Christmas from all the other wine regions– Fred will be able to give you the very best recommendations!

Post-Christmas and New Year Menu

At this time of the year (from 28th December – 5th January) we are unable to offer our usual a la carte menu, due to fish markets being closed.
This results in the very limited availability of fresh fish, nationally.
We do however offer a perfectly wonderful alternative range of delicious choices on our menu that will set your taste buds working overtime.

New Winter season exhibition

Our current exhibition ‘Passion’ will shortly be replaced by a brand new selection of artwork which will be open to view on the 28th November 2017.

The new exhibition entitled ‘Found’ calls for the artists to interpret the theme as broadly as possible.  The resulting artwork is reflective, innovative and engaging, offering different subjects, personal approaches and media. All work is for sale and features the work of 26 talented artists, many who exhibit their work nationally and internationally. It ranges from drawing and printmaking through to painting, jewellery and photography. The Old Passage exhibition policy asks that each sale results in a donation from the artist to help support activities of the Severn Area Rescue Association’s life-saving search and rescue work on the River Severn.
