After a year of circling the globe, tasting wines from famous regions around the world, for August’s wine and food pairing evening we’re staying right here in the UK.
On Wednesday, August 7th, join us to taste a selection of English wines, hand-picked by our wine expert Frederik, all matched with delicious plates of food created by our head chef.
Many years ago, English wine had a bad reputation as poor quality, but more recently there has been an explosion in new wines and vineyards in the south of England, many with the quality to rival traditional new and old world wine regions.
In fact, several English sparkling wines have been likened to Champagne in their style, taste and quality due to our mild climate, that is similar to the famous French region. We can’t reveal the wines ahead of time, but we can say that at least a couple of the wines will be from local vineyards. This will be a real celebration of English food and drink!
As ever, Fred will be full of interesting knowledge on the wine selection and we’ll be showing how each wine can be paired with food to compliment the drink. Each wine will be served with a small plate of food cooked by our head chef.
Our wine and food pairing evenings are monthly events, and they are always relaxed, fun and informal. The evening starts at 7pm and costs £32.50pp. To book call 01452 740547
I’m afraid we don’t actually get to travel to Northern Italy, but we’ll certainly feel like we could be there for a few hours when we taste a delicious section of Italian wines, handpicked by our wine expert Frederik, that will transport us to sunshine and blue skies!
Each wine is matched with a delicious little plate of food by our head chef, and Frederik will take you through tasting notes and what foods each wine pairs well with. These are fun, relaxed and informal tastings that we hold once a month, however all our previous guests say they’ve come away learning a lot, and trying wines they’d never have considered before.
The evening costs £32.50pp, and you’ll need to call to book in advance on 01452 740547.
Mums are special, even we know that, we all have them! So, treating them on Mother’s Day is pretty important.
We’ve got some lovely ideas for treating your mum at The Old Passage, but do make sure you book in advance, as we usually get fully booked. We’d love to make Mother’s Day really special for you and your mum.
A riverside walk and heart-warming Sunday Lunch
With the weather finally getting warmer, now is the perfect opportunity to get out as a family and have a walk. The sign-posted walks in Arlingham take in the banks of the River Severn, fields, and beautiful views – it’s very peaceful. Round it off with a delicious Sunday Lunch at The Old Passage. We have a three course set Sunday lunch, as well as our a la carte menu available, so plenty of choice.
A champagne breakfast or brunch
Our Old Passage breakfast is a popular choice for Mother’s Day. What a treat to be taken out for a sumptuous breakfast, perhaps even with a glass of champagne? Our breakfasts are something truly unique, from a Full English and French toast, to oysters, lobster and champagne or our Pilots Breakfast (scrambled egg, crab, smoked salmon and lobster on toasted brioche) – you won’t be disappointed with the choice on offer. View the full menu here, which is available 9am-11am.
A special gift-voucher
If you can’t make it out on Mother’s Day or you want to give your mum a unique gift, then what about one of our gift vouchers so she can treat herself whenever she wants? We offer vouchers in any denominations of £10.00, alternatively you can buy a gift voucher for our Wine and Food Pairing Evenings, which include trying a selection of around six wines from a particular wine region, led by our wine expert Frederik, and little plates of food to match each wine. These are £32.50 per person.
